FAQ

When publishing with Amazon Kindle, should I include page numbering or do they do that for me?
No you do not need page numbers. When someone reads on a Kindle they can change the font and size which may change your page count (bigger font more pages because less appears on each page). Also youll see less per page on a small phone than if youre reading on your laptop. Instead of page numbers Kindle uses a percentplete at the bottom to keep track of your place. So no page numbers no running headers for a Kindle book (or for any ebook). Good luck! EDITED TO ADD The questioner would like to know how to add page numbers for a print book. First you need section breaks at the end of each section that will have a different running header. For example you don want page numbers on your title page your dedication or your copyright page (the front matter). So at the end of all of this front matter InsertSection Break Next Page. You can enter regular page breaks between front matter items but you only need section breaks for different headers. In Word go to FilePage Setup and click the Margins tab. make sure you are still in the front matter section of your book. here what my Createspace file looks like Checking that Mirror Margins box gives you two pages that lay out like a book. Make these margins the same for the whole book (all the sections). Then go to the section of your book that starts the actual or the story. Go to FilePage Setup and click the Layout tab. Here what my Createspace files look like Checking those two boxes above will allow you to have a different header for odd and even pages and will allow you to have NO header on the first page of a chapter. Pull out a print book and look at how this is done for reference. When you have all your book sections laid out like above double-click in the header space and in your information - page number (which you will insert so that it automatic - don actually it in) usually at the far edge of the page; and either book title or author name. Some authors put the chapter name in the running header but I find that to be a headache. ) These are the basics. I work on a Mac and there are slight differences between platforms and versions. But this should get you started. Good luck!
How do I add the page number on a Word document along with the page header?
How do I insert a page number without removing the header? italic Easy open the header and add the PAGE field code to wherever you want it. horizontal-rule That the best italic way to do it but it is not the way Word user interface tends to ge people. Instead most people learn to use options from the Insert Page Number drop-down menu to insert an automatic page number with various formatting options already set up. That works but it normally wipes out any existing header (or footer). Moreover depending on which of the many options you choose you may end up with a page number within a floating box or shape associated with the header. (Hard to understand why Microsoft developers decided that italic would be the easier method) Instead create the header you want and where you need a page number press Ctrl-F9 to add the field code braces then page . Select the footer and press Alt-F9 to toggle from the field code view to the result. Your page number will be there. You could also use Insert Quick Parts Field and scroll down to select the Page field code. This gives you additional options to set the page number format and doesn need the toggle step. Why would you want to manage it yourself? italic Because you have more control. Consider the following header strategy for a book Your Header style could be set up with a centered tab (for the chapter and book title) and a right tab at the right margin. The Footer style could just be set centered. In the Page Setup dialog Layout tab you turn on both the Different odd and even and Different first page checkboxes to allow you to have the 3 headers and one footer described above. The first page header would be empty but as noted with space before of 72pt to push the chapter title down on the chapter starting pages. The first page footer would just be the Page field code. The Even page header would be Page field code tab chapter title. The Odd page header would be tab book title tab Page field code. And if you use styles for the chapter number and title you can use StyleRef field codes to automatically pull the chapter number and title so you won need to define new even page headers for each chapter.
How do I add a title and page numbers as headers in MS Word?

Follow this for all the steps Add page numbers to a header or footer in Word for Windows s
I'd like to learn web-related programming. What should I start with?
I feel a lot of answers here jump the gun a bit some a lot. MVC? Come on now he said he knows nothing about programming! Let's step back. Here is my humble attempt to enlighten you before you waste any of your time. n You are always wrong. Programming is instructing theputer how to do something. Theputer only does precisely what it is told nothing more nothing less. This is a surprisingly difficult concept to grasp for some people. There is zero ambiguity when ites to executing code. There may be ambiguity or unexpectedness in what happens but that is not the same thing. This cannot be emphasized enough. When something unexpected happens it is one of three things. Either your code is wrong someone else's code is wrong or you misunderstood the specifications. To be more specific either your HTML has a missing bracket Internet Explorer has a bug or Internet Explorer was designed that way but you just didn't know it yet. Theputer will only do exactly what it is told and will never share your frustration or show any sympathy. Programming will test your limits if you aren't used to being wrong because theputer is always right. Always. n Aputer can only do what it can already do. Sorry to burst your bubble but programming is the organizing and re-organizing of existingputer functionality. No code that you write will make your laptop do jumping jacks unless it has programmable arms and legs that can already do jumping jacks. To put this more into con say you want video on your web page. It would seem any programmer would be able to aplish this very simple task yet even today it is actually extremely difficult and involved if you need your video to bepatible on every platform. You'll probably end up using a service or something someone else made and for good reason. And this is avoiding programming. n It isn't Language. It is Computer Code. Never will HTML or CSS or JS or C++ or Pascal be English or Japanese. Never! They are not on the same evolutionary path. When you are coding you are notmunicating or telling or insisting or negotiating or expressing anything. You are simply listingmands in the precise order and syntax that theputer requires. italic That's it. This is another extremely difficult concept to grasp for some. If it were language subconsciously we feel that theputer may be wrong depending on how you phrase your arguments. But no theputer is never wrong you are not talking to it and it can only do what it is told. Imagine a remote with 1 buttons. They are only labeled with words for our italic convenience. Theputer couldn't care less. It just reacts to the buttons you press. n The Essence The essence of programming is in abstraction which is the coding of new intelligence from existing intelligence. These abstractions in turn are exposed as the specifications ( specs italic ) for any given language device API etc. In short S omeone wrote it. italic Within aputer these specse in layers (aka abstraction layers) and in groups. For example the group of specs for just the front-end of web programming is basically HTML CSS JavaScript and the specs of the major browsers. As a programmer your task is to take these specs and implement what you want with them. Specs are often massive each language has its own syntax and there are a ton of unpredictable bugs that no one will tell you about. Also you can only build what the specs permit. Yes stretching them is fun but for every extra inch assume you are opening a new can of worms. The basics work best. Specs also evolve especially web related specs. One must keep up. Nothing is learned once. When you reach the point where you are writing your own specs there is a great sense of freedom and aplishment. You get to code your own intelligence and watch others make use of it. However everything is still written in something else and most programmers will still find themselves working with existing specs more than their own. n In Summary If you still feel you have the stomach for it then ya... continue on reading what everyone else said. n Epilogue For more on making something from nothing look no further than the classic MIT lectures of Hal Abelson and Gerald Jay Sussman from 1986n This will not help you right away but will help you more than you could ever imagine if you decide to pursue a career in software engineering. italic This in a nutshell is what it's all about. italic It isn't about anything specific. But if everyputer had one thing inmon it is the essence of how abstraction bes specification at any level any devise past present or future.
How do I add page numbers to a WordPress blog? (View my comment in Answer below to see more Info)
What I do is swap out the theme for a generic theme (twenty - seventeen is a really good generic theme) for a bit and see if pagination works there. I suspect the theme is missing some code or something. But. When I add the WordPress page calls manually it looks like you have created pages in the root directory that could possibly interfere with that also. But Again If I add blog or blog to the root then those are there within WordPress which makes me think it the theme. I mention the above just incase you plan to later run the whole website from WordPress. If you made any customizations to the theme you are using you might want to backup the theme you are using before doing the temporary theme swap unless your memory is very good.
