Click and drag to change from Roman numbers, Add Page Numbers, Microsoft Word for Dissertations For the first one I've chosen to use a different page to have the page number appear in every position of the document. It looks like a big mess! Go to the Header & Footer group and go to Edit > Page Number in the list that appears. A new window will open, with the number that you have chosen, the layout you choose and the format you chose, along with any layout and numbering settings that you have previously selected. Change the size: 1. Click and drag on the right side of the edit box to set the space between the page numbers you have chosen. Then select from the drop-down menu. 2. Click and drag on the right side of the edit box to adjust the number size you have chosen. Then select from the drop-down menu. The final page number looks like this: (If the layout doesn't look how you want, select the edit box and drag it around. It will be a lot easier to deal with once you have selected your layout and formatting settings.) Adjust the number sizes: 1. Click and drag on the left side of the edit box to adjust the number size you have chosen. Then select from the drop-down menu. You then need to press enter and the number you are changing will be applied to the page. (You may not have changed the font size yet, if the font size is too small, it may still look weird, but it works as long as the font size is correct.) For the second example I've chosen to have page numbers that appear in different places of the document. This time, go to the header & footer group and in the Page Number menu, clicks on the arrow next to the Page Number icon, and then choose the layout you want. (Make note of the current layout, as you will need to edit it. To add and configure page numbers in Microsoft Word 2013, right-click on the first line of the text, and select Page Number From Text. This will open the Page Number dialog box, where you can select the numbers that you choose. Then click OK, to open up the page number editor.
