Word Autonumber Field: What You Should Know

Type ‐‐‒, as shown in Figure 2.3a, to change the ‐‐ and ‒‐ characters in a field to underscore and minus, respectively. Figure 2.3a ‐‐‒ switch · Select the value and position of the field with the arrow.  If you add one or more ‐‐ or ‒‐ characters and click the Edit button, an edit box appears. In the box, type 1 through the number sequence you want to apply to the value. The following table shows some examples: 2 8 3 2 0 4 0 1 7 3 8 2 0 4 1 1 1 7 3 3 2 0 4 8 2 0 1 7 10 1 1 2 If you click on either arrow, you'll notice a field list and a field list of type seq, if you have one. Now click on the ‐‐‒ arrow to edit the ‐‐ and sext—values of the field. This can be confusing because when you add one, or two, or three or more characters to an existing ‐‐ or sext field, it automatically adds an underscore or minus and changes the ‐‐ character in the ‒‐. Otherwise, the sequence doesn't appear correctly 3. Select the value and position of the field with the arrow.  3. When the field changes as shown in Figure 2.5a or Figure 2.5b, click on the Edit button. Here you can choose to add a ‐‐ or sext­­-value. In this example, you'll put a _ character in the sext field to make the sequence appear correctly. Figure 2.5a Editing sext fields 3 2 0 1 2 2 0 3. Click Apply to make adjustments. You can apply this command to any number field in the document and any number sequence will change.
