How Do I Organize My Family Trees And Prepare It For Printing?

There are quite a few websites to help you build a family tree. Too many to list but a few include. Ancestry.com has one of the largest collections of records from around the world. There are versions of the site for different countries as well. There is a subscription fee but you can either pay month-to-month, twice a year or annually… plus there are different levels based on what records you need access to. You can create an unlimited number of public or private family tree databases. Ancestry also owns Newspapers.com ($), Archives.com ($), Findagrave.com (free), Fold3.com ($), Rootsweb.com (free) and more. Some of these sites require an additional fee while others are free. Ancestry also offers autosomal DNA testing (atDNA) to discover your ethnic lineage and match other users who have tested with Ancestry DNA. One user can manage several DNA test kits (results) and each kit can be attached to a person in your family tree to help improve relationship information. The ThruLines feature provides family research hints by combining information from other trees on the site. A new health report has also been released recently, but it requires a doctor’s prescription. FamilySearch.org has one of the largest collections of records from around the world and it’s free to use. You can have only one tree and other users can modify your tree so that can be a challenge sometimes. FindMyPast.com is primarily for British or Irish research. It is a paid site. MyHeritage.com has a large collection of records. It requires a paid subscription and integrates their atDNA testing with your family tree. WikiTree.com does not include any records but it does allow users to contribute to the one tree. That is, there is only one family tree on this site and everyone is an editor. Each ‘person’ in the tree is managed by one user but other users can request changes, such as merging duplicates or providing additional information. It is also free. Q. What are some good websites for doing a family tree?
