What Do You Think Of Elizabeth Warren Proposing To Ban Private Prisons?

What do you think of Elizabeth Warren proposing to ban private prisons? I think we all acknowledge that we can not simply hand out life sentences for every single crime. We believe that there are appropriate sentences for certain crimes, and most involve letting the criminal out again at some point. I would assume that, as a citizen of the United States, you would prefer to see crime in the United States decrease. I would therefore assume that you would prefer that those people who have been to prison and been let out do not re-offend when t leave. There are things you can do with prisoners which drastically reduce the chances of them reoffending when t leave- proven methods which demonstrably lessen the chances of that individual committing further crimes. These methods are collectively known as “rehabilitation”. Private prisons are paid for housing criminals. T are businesses, and this is how t make their money. If people are not committing crimes, t make no money. Putting the responsibility for rehabilitating prisoners into the hands of individuals which have a vested interest in seeing those prisoners commit more crime is such a monstrously stupid idea I don’t even know where to begin. This is a question of conflicting priorities. The prison operators want more crime. Society wants less crime. What’s good for the prison operators is not what’s good for society. And yet, the prison operators are the ones responsible for ensuring that prisoners leave their establishment less likely to commit further crimes. … how much effort do you think t’re putting into that? Elizabeth Warren is quite right to say that private prisons ought to be banned. T are nothing but a way for private companies to make money from the American government, with no benefit to American citizens whatsoever.

We’ll be sending a clear message by passing this measure that crime and punishment should be the sole preserve of the people. No one could claim that the system is “broken” when we have such a high recidivism rate among inmates. If you are in prison, and you want to see the door closed on you, get on t’re bused. A system run exclusively for profit is a system which has failed. The private prisons of the world are simply the latest in a long line of business ventures which have come and gone, each with a few people still left working in the businesses to keep them afloat. What is wrong with “banning” private prisons?
